As part of the development of our CIPEM China team, we are looking for an experienced quality engineer who wants to take on a cross-functional role in an international environment with a strong industrial focus.
The position is a 12-month V.I.E. assignment, renewable, at our office in Dongguan (China). This office is the operational center that manages CIPEM’s industrial activities in China and, more broadly, in Asia.
You will join a team of 45 people, including several V.I.E.s, and strengthen the quality department. You will bring the methods and tools the team needs and pass them on through training and hands-on coaching. You will lead cross-functional projects without direct management, while existing managers stay responsible for their teams.
Reports to: Management of the CIPEM China Service Office
Works with: Quality and QA managers, technical departments, purchasing, sales
The position covers four main areas:
Supplier Quality Assurance: AQP deployment, process FMEA, supplier audits and monitoring, supplier performance and change control
Product & Process Quality: new project assessment (EAN), process audits, capability, SPC and MSA, control plans and acceptance criteria
Problem Solving: 8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa, Pareto prioritization, action plans and PDCA
Customer Interface: sensitive customer claims, customer audits
Supplier Quality Assurance
AQP (Product Quality Assurance) : Deploy AQP at suppliers: quality plan, validation milestones, project reviews.
Process FMEA (PFMEA) : Lead or challenge process FMEAs on at-risk commodities (unproven technology, unfavourable history, special characteristics) and derive the controls to be implemented.
First sample validation : Validate initial inspection reports and material compliance files (MDS, RoHS, REACH) before series launch.
Supplier monitoring plan : Translate key characteristics (KPC) into a monitoring plan: control plan, FMEA, quality records, in-process and outgoing inspections (OQC, AQL).
Supplier audits by product family : Rework generic audits into grids by product family (cables and connectors, electronics and PCBA, mechanical, plastic and silicone, transformers) with a common base: critical risks, controls, tests, expected evidence, scoring criteria. Feed in lessons from claims.
Performance and changes : Track supplier indicators (PPM, scrap) in periodic reviews; control changes (ECN / PCN).
Product & Process Quality
EAN (Blue File ) : Prepare EANs for new projects: technical inputs, key characteristics (KPC), technical risks, process flow (in-house or subcontracted), opinion for the steering committee.
Process audit : Audit production lines: complete and applied SOPs, operator training and certification, control of equipment, inspections and key process points.
Machine and process capability : Have capability studies (Cm/Cmk, Cp/Cpk) carried out and analysed on key characteristics, and trigger actions if results fall below requirements.
SPC and MSA : Implement control charts (SPC) on key characteristics and validate measurement systems (MSA, R&R).
Control plans and acceptance criteria : Build or review control plans consistent with the FMEA. Formalise inspection instructions and acceptance criteria (IPC standards, customer specifications) with OK / NOK photo examples.
Problem Solving
Lead 8Ds : occurrence and non-detection causes, corrective actions, evidence-based verification of their effectiveness.
5M (Ishikawa) and 5-Why : Structure root-cause investigation with shop-floor teams, down to the systemic level, without stopping at the observed defect.
Pareto : Prioritise the defects, suppliers and product families to address, based on scrap, inspection and claims data.
Action plan and PDCA : Deploy action plans (owner, due date, effectiveness indicator) and drive follow-up through to closure.
Customer Interface
Sensitive claims : Act as the customer’s quality contact on priority cases: coordinate containment with suppliers (lot identification, sorting, blocking, rework or replacement), provide factual and regular updates, track deadlines through to closure and feed lessons learned back into audits and control plans.
Customer audits : Prepare audits of the China office and the suppliers concerned (customer requirements, documents, compliance evidence). Accompany the customer during the audit, then follow up commitments, findings and action plans through to closure.
Master’s degree (5 years of higher education) or engineering degree in quality, industrial engineering, mechanical or electronic engineering, or equivalent.
Minimum 3 years of experience in industrial quality, with hands-on practice of supplier audits and customer claim management.
Command of 8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa and Pareto; good practice of process FMEA and control plans; working knowledge of SPC and capability; comfortable with Excel and data analysis.
Technical versatility (cables, electronics, mechanics): able to analyse a specification and a process, ask the right questions and mobilise subject-matter experts.
Professional English is essential. Basic Chinese is desirable; lessons will be arranged if needed.
Autonomy, rigour, customer focus, cross-cultural ease, ability to lead projects without hierarchical authority, availability for supplier visits.
A key role at the heart of Asian industrial operations
Strong exposure to factories, suppliers and customers
The chance to structure and improve quality practices across a 45-person team
Varied industrial projects across many product families
Fast skills growth in an international environment
Support from experienced local and European teams
Growing responsibility on high-value projects, with further scope if the assignment is renewed
Type: V.I.E. – 12-month full-time assignment, renewable
Location: Dongguan (China), with travel to suppliers
Eligibility: Open to European citizens (as per Business France V.I.E. requirements)
Compensation: Based on the Business France V.I.E. grid
Open to candidates with disabilities
